These are just some of the words Jesus chose to say when a big crowd was listening:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”
“Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.”
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”
(Matthew 5:1-12 NRSVUE)
I suppose this public appearance was as perfect an opportunity as ever to tell people about what they needed to do differently. What religion they needed to follow. How they needed to get right with God and be ashamed.
But instead Jesus just looked at people and said that their human condition was all they needed. Their brokenness and their common humanity was all that was required to receive a blessing and a promise of eternity, mercy, comfort, and inheritance.
So if you're feeling doubly down about having a Blue Christmas… heartbroken, embarrassed, behind, AND incongruent with the joy of others, you are also now in the locked center of Divine love and intention.
Receive.
Nothing more is required of you. It never was. All is forgiven. Our only job in this life is to live like we know who we are. Our only call is to live as freely in the fullness of love as we really are.

Description:[Through a frosty blue window pane we see a long-haired person in a trench coat and a warm knit cap walking through a chilly winter scene followed by a fox, perhaps unbeknownst to her/them. A cardinal flies up above.]
